About Us

Bedford Animal Action (BAA) is a group for people in the Bedfordshire area who are concerned about animal abuse and want to help bring about an end to the suffering.
There is no formal membership scheme or fees to pay, members just come along to meetings as and when they can and take part in other events and activities when able to do so. As a group we campaign against many forms of animal abuse including vivisection, blood sports, animals in captivity, fur, the use of animals for entertainment and factory farming.
BAA also promotes a vegan diet as the single most important step that someone can take to help save the lives of animals.
BAA supports many national campaigns including the fight against the new Oxford animal laboratory (SPEAK) and the campaign against Huntingdon Life Sciences (SHAC).
BAA also campaigns against animal abuse locally wherever it can. For example members helped to prevent a proposed cull of Canada and Greylag geese in Bedford through a campaign of letter writing and petitions, raising public awareness and organising demonstrations in the town. We also campaigned against the sale of puppies and kittens at a local pet shop, Posh Petz, which has now closed.
Activities include organising and attending demonstrations both locally and nationally, holding information stalls in Bedford and other local towns, distributing leaflets, letter writing, giving media interviews, fundraising and even the odd social event. Involvement in activities is entirely up to the individual and everyone does as much or as little as they choose. For example some people are unable to attend demos due to work or family commitments so they help out in other ways. Others may feel more comfortable just helping on stalls or writing letters.Any contribution, no matter how small, helps to make a difference.
BAA meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 7.45pm at the Phoenix pub in St Johns Street, Bedford. New members are always welcome, you can just turn up although it is advisable to check first in case a meeting has had to be cancelled or rescheduled for a different date.
